The Mill Creek Parks and Recreation Division is looking forward to an exciting year in 2010. Many popular community events are planned such as the Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt, Children’s Concerts, Halloween Trunk or Treat, and the Winter Tree Lighting Ceremony. Funding for these popular events comes solely from the generous support of the businesses in our community.
The City’s special event budget in 2010 is $9,000, in addition to in-kind donations. We need your help and ask that you consider supporting these worthwhile community events with a donation.
We sincerely appreciate the businesses and organizations that sponsor these community events and make every effort to recognize their support. A professional banner listing all of the Gold and Silver Sponsors will be displayed at all events, providing extended year-long recognition. All sponsors will receive a 2010 window cling to display at their place of business throughout the year identifying them as a valued Community Sponsor.
The City of Mill Creek has established 501(c)(3) non profit status through a partnership with the Northwest Parks Foundation. Your tax deductible donations to support these special events can be made by going to the NW Parks Foundation web site (nwparks.org) and selecting the Donate Now option, with the fund Mill Creek Special Events/Parks selected. You may also donate by check — made payable to "Northwest Parks Foundation" designate Park Safety Net Fund for Mill Creek Special Events and mail to: Park Safety Net Fund, Northwest Parks Foundation, PO Box 605, Woodinville, WA 98072-0605. The NW Parks Foundation charges the City a small administrative fee for the 501(c)(3) service, so if you do not need the tax deduction and want to make your donation directly to the City, checks can be made payable to the City of Mill Creek and mailed to the attention of Pam Olson, at City of Mill Creek, 15728 Main Street, Mill Creek, Washington 98012.
We would like to have all of the sponsors identified by the end of February so we can order the 2010 banner and have it in time to display at the first event — the Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt. Thank you so much for your consideration. If you have any questions, please call Pam Olson, Recreation Supervisor, at (425) 921-5737.

Mill Creek City staff is beginning a review of the Parks and Open Space Element of the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The intent of the Parks and Open Space Element is to present goals and policies to guide acquisition, development and implementation of the City's Parks and Open Space program. The Parks and Open Space Plan contains the Level of Service (LOS) Standards and Facility Guidelines for parks and open space facilities, a list of needed and proposed facilities, as well as implementation strategies.
The Comprehensive Plan was originally created utilizing an extensive public participation process to determine the Community’s goals and establish a set of policies to implement those goals. The intent of the current review is to evaluate the adopted goals and policies to ensure that they still reflect the Community’s vision.
A critical component of the process is a Parks and Open Space Needs Assessment Survey, which is intended to evaluate the Community’s priorities and identify areas of the Comprehensive Plan that require updating. The survey is available on the City’s web site at www.cityofmillcreek.com – a “Park Needs Survey” button is on the right side of the City’s home page. If you would like a paper copy of the survey, contact Sherrie Ringstad at (425) 921-5717 or via email at

. Mill Creek residents are urged to take a few minutes to complete the survey and let us know what park, trail, and open space needs and issues are important to you.
In addition, the City will be hosting an Open House on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. This informal gathering will have displays showing current parks and open space facilities, information on issues regarding development of new facilities, copies of the survey will be available to fill out in person, and refreshments will be provided. The Parks and Recreation Board and staff will be on hand to answer questions and visit with you to get your ideas. Take this opportunity to find out about the City’s current plan, make your desires known and ensure that the City’s plan addresses your priorities. Survey responses will be invaluable in staff’s review of the Parks and Open Space Plan and will ensure that the Plan reflects the Community’s vision.
